Yes, it seems most people are considering looking into solar and there are plenty of companies offering their services.  Without question, installing solar makes a lot of sense, but it is also very easy to get wrong, as it is a highly complex matter.  Many companies front up with a sales person, their job is to bring the order in and the bigger the better.

A solar installation has to be designed to suit the energy requirements of the household.  Panel positioning as all important, so often we find installations producing a shortfall of 40 to 50% of the installations potential, but then if you are tied to the grid, you will never know and you will be paying for that top-up.  This is one of the main problems, because the installation shortfall is always balanced out at your cost by the grid, and without qualified knowledge and the correct equipment you will never know.

So what about Off-Grid?  Ask that question to your sales person and you will see their head shaking. Why, simply because of the above, there is no fallback if they get it wrong.  Well let me tell you Off-Grid is perfectly achievable for those that want the take that route.

Then there is the back market.  The solar technology has progressed greatly over the last few years, this has created a back market for out dated and refurbished units which can be bought in at lower prices.  Nothing wrong with low pricing, but a lot wrong to low performance.
